What is a Keto Donut Made Of?

Dry Ingredients
Use fine almond flour rather than almond meal for making these almond flour donuts. Coconut flour combined with almond flour creates the best flour mixture for making low-carb donuts.
Protein powder is not required for this recipe, but I like to add an unflavored protein powder to increase the protein without adding additional net carbs.
Monk fruit sweetener is a great sugar substitute that helps to mimic the taste of traditional donuts.
Baking powder helps the donuts to rise.
Wet Ingredients
Almond milk or coconut milk along with whole eggs help to bring the donut batter together becoming a binding agent that lends moisture.
Vanilla extract provides a warm flavor that helps these keto donuts to taste like the real thing.
Keto Glaze Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you'll need for the keto glaze:
Melted butter, monk fruit sweetener, and vanilla extract create a creamy and delicious sweet glaze to top the low carb donuts.
Add a teaspoon or more of unsweetened cocoa powder to make a chocolate glaze.
How to Make This Keto Donut Recipe
Below are step-by-step instructions for how to cook this recipe with the best results. The recipe card at the bottom shows the exact cooking time and temperatures.
Step 1
Mix all of your donut ingredients in a large mixing bowl. I did this with a whisk and a mixing bowl, no food processor or electric mixer is required.
Step 2
Add wet ingredients and stir until well mixed.
Step 3
Spray the donut pan or silicone donut pan with coconut oil spray and fill about ⅔ of the way up.
Step 4
Bake in the oven for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown. Allow Keto donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes then move to a cooling rack to cool completely before serving with a cup of coffee!
How To Make Keto Glaze
- Allow keto donuts to cool on a wire rack while you make the glaze.
- Melt butter in a saucepan and add in sweetener. Stir until sweetener is completely melted then add in vanilla. Stir over medium heat for about 5 minutes. You can also complete this step in the microwave.
- Remove the glaze from heat.
- Dip each cooled donut into the glaze and allow to cool completely.

There are 5.2 total carbs in this recipe. Net carbs are 4.0 grams and sugar is 1.1 grams.
If you don't have a pastry bag or piping bag, try using a quart-sized Ziploc bag and cutting off the tip.
You may also use a bowl with a spout and carefully pour the batter into the donut pan.
Fill your pan no more than ⅔ of the way up. If you fill the donut pan fully, the donuts will overflow.
To ensure my Keto donuts do not stick to the pan, I spray the donut pan very well with coconut oil spray.
You can also run a butter knife around the perimeter of the donuts and the donut hole section to gently loosen them before removing them.
Also - be sure to allow them to cool in the pan for at least five minutes before flipping them onto a cooling rack to cool fully.

- ¼ cup grassfed butter
- ¼ cup Swerve or powdered Monk Fruit Sweetener
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix all donut ingredients together.2 eggs, ½ cup almond flour, ¼ cup protein powder, 2 tablespoon coconut flour, ¼ cup Swerve or powdered Monk Fruit Sweetener, ¼ teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla, ⅛ - ¼ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- Spray donut pan with coconut spray. Use a quart sized bag or a frosting bag to pipe donuts into prepared donut pan filling approximately ⅔ of the way. Bake in oven for 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow donuts to cool in pan for 5 minutes then move to a baking rack to cool completely.
Glaze Instructions
- Allow donuts to completely cool before dipping donuts in glaze.¼ cup grassfed butter, ¼ cup Swerve or powdered Monk Fruit Sweetener, 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Melt glaze ingredients in microwave or over medium heat until well incorporated.
- Remove glaze from heat.

These are really Amazing!!! I've tried different recipes that say they taste amazingly good and they are horrible. What other changes do you recommend if substituting coconut flour? I know coconut flour is more absorbent and I've read adding another egg to the recipe. Do you agree with that? Do I add more liquid as well?

I wouldn't add more liquid personally. I'd start with swapping out coconut flour first and taking it from there. Adding in an extra egg wouldn't be a terrible idea but I wouldn't add more liquid until you try one modification at a time.

Super upset about the lack of clarity in this recipe! At what point was I supposed to know not to use the egg yolks? The ingredients say "eggs" and the instructions say "mix all ingredients together". My donuts came out like cookies despite following the recipe to a T, now I read in the comments I wasn't supposed to add the yolks..... Very irritating.

I made these. They were delicious. However, it did not come out of the pan as anticipated. They were a beast to remove and looked more like Krispy Kreme glazed hash. I oiled the pan with butter cause that is all I had. Could that possibly be the reason it happened? I didn't have the coconut spray. l

Hey Kykye. I am not sure if you are using a metal nonstick or silicone donut pan but I got rid of my silicone pan for the reason you described above. It did not matter what I greased that thing with donuts would not come out as one. My metal nonstick works best with a non-stick spray. I personally use Trader Joe's Coconut spray and donuts tend to come out just fine. I am sure the baking spray found in other grocery stores would also work great but not my preference. If greasing with butter I would do the old fashioned trick of adding a little flour and shaking, then discarding the excess. I have also noticed that with some recipes baking them just a couple of minutes longer will help them come out easier as well. The trouble area tends to be around the center so try to loosen that area with a small silcone spatula first if it is sticking. Backed donuts can be tricky to remove, especially if it is all almond flour. This recipe is a mix and tends to release easier. I hope these tips help a little.

Just wanted you to know I made these just as directed, except I used the Lankato Monk fruit sweetener, and my family was amazed. My son, who is not eating keto, told me they were better than the donuts he had earlier in the day. PLUS, I got a thumbs up from my husband. This has been a difficult task with other desserts.

it's worth a try! It may not give you the same consistency as the recipe but it doesn't hurt to give it a try if you can't do the heavy whipping cream. coconut cream would be another option if you're looking for something dairy-free
