Ingredients and Substitutions
Here are the ingredients you need to make this recipe. Reference the recipe card at the bottom for exact measurements and the notes below for substitution ideas.

- Raw shrimp: I recommend Argentine red shrimp (just like in our air fryer shrimp recipe). They are the most budget-friendly, they are large shrimp, and they have a tender texture and flavor.
- Lemon. Fresh lemon juice adds bright flavor and acidity to the shrimp. It balances out the buttery flavor.
- Garlic powder. I recommend garlic powder for its ease of preparation and incorporation into the butter sauce. Fresh garlic cloves may also be used.
- Butter. Butter or avocado oil works best when cooking shrimp on the Blackstone due to the oils' high smoke point. Do not use olive oil or vegetable oils.
- Salt and pepper. Not pictured in the photo above, but use them to season to taste.
Flavor Variations
Try another flavor variation or seasoning when making shrimp on the Blackstone:
- Cajun: Use a Cajun seasoning (like in our mahi mahi recipe).
- Old Bay: Classic seafood seasoning like Old Bay is delicious on shrimp (and our Ritz cracker crab cakes and Old Bay Salmon).
- Asian inspired: Use ginger, soy sauce, and add it to an easy stir fry.
- Southwest: Use taco seasoning and avocado oil with a bit of fresh cilantro.
- Pesto: Stir cooked Blackstone shrimp with some basil pesto.
- Spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for some spice.

Below are step-by-step instructions for how to cook this recipe with the best results. The recipe card at the bottom shows the exact cooking time and temperatures.
Step 1: Prepare the Blackstone
Preheat the cleaned and seasoned griddle over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.
Step 2: Season the Shrimp

Dry the defrosted shrimp with paper towels.
Add the shrimp to a large bowl. Season with garlic powder and drizzle with melted butter. Stir gently to combine.
Once the griddle is heated, melt butter on the griddle.

Add the shrimp to the hot griddle in a single layer.
Let the shrimp cook on the preheated griddle for no more than 2-3 minutes per side. Monitor it closely to avoid overcooked shrimp.

Turn off the griddle and squeeze the juice of half a lemon over top. Serve.

Make Ahead
If using frozen shrimp, defrost them before making this recipe. Blackstone shrimp may be made ahead to eat cold up to 3 days in advance.
Refer to how to store leftover shrimp for how to store pre-made shrimp.
Storing Leftover Shrimp
Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
Freezing
I do not recommend freezing pre-cooked shrimp.
Reheating
Reheated shrimp tend to be rubbery. I recommend eating it cold on top of a salad or mixing it into your favorite pasta salad (I like Blackstone shrimp with orzo pesto salad).
